Share your Vision with Your City Government Officials
Public participation and input is an essential part of the planning process. We appreciate you taking time to share your thoughts as we begin to prioritize these items. The action plan will prioritize community projects, creating public-private partnerships to secure implementation funding. Creating a shared vision is usually accomplished by working through a variety of means to promote community consensus. Please download and complete our community survey and return it to City Hall prior to our Town Hall Meeting on May 5.
2008 Town Hall meeting
The 2008 meeting will focus on accomplishments since the last Town Hall meeting.
In addtion community input regarding needs and dreams for the future is requested.
Maize Area Chamber of Commerce Business Showcase
This is the first “Maize Business Showcase” sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. If you have a business in Maize and would like to have a booth for the Town Hall meeting please contact, Sasha Poell at 722-9001 or DJ Sims at 722-9977. Please take time to visit the booths at the Town Hall Meeting. This begins at 6p.m.
Prizes and Refreshments
There will be a drawing for prizes from several of the local business and refreshments will be served.

After the meeting, tours of the new city hall will be available.
Overview of the Maize Town Hall Meetings
For your information and in order to provide some historical perspective an overview of the previous town hall meetings is outlined below:
2002 Town Hall Meeting focused on:
The 2002 meeting brought in a broad perspective of what was most important to the Maize Community. General questions such as: “What do I want to see happen in Maize in the next 20 years?” were considered. Quality of life, road improvements, business, economic development, schools and government center were among issues considered.
Participant’s results are listed below, in order of importance:
- Government Center (City Hall, Police, Fire) – 129 votes
- Recreation Center/Pool – 105 votes
- Keep Small Town Identity – 103 votes
- Aggressive Annexation – 100 votes
- Clean Up Downtown – 77 votes
- Recruit Businesses and Industry -76 votes
- Variety of Eating Places – 72 votes
- Pave Streets – 61 votes
- Sidewalks – 57 votes
2004 Town Hall Meeting focused on:
- A development plan for additional parks and green space for future growth.
- Develop a plan and establish a new City Government Center.
- Infrastructure issue and associated drainage issues.
- Community Involvement issues to promote and encourage involvement of residents, businesses and non-profit groups in achieving overall city goals.
- The need to establish a public library and resource center.
- What is most important within the Economic Development.
- A plan to improve visual image of Maize Road and the old downtown area.
2006 Town Hall Meeting
The 2006 meeting focused on 2004-2010 comprehensive goals/strategies, what had been accomplished and what city council and staff were working toward. Approximately 90% of the goals outlined during the 2006 Town Hall Meeting have been achieved.
Some of these include; the Maize Area Chamber of Commerce has been established and currently has 35 members, the Zoning & Subdivision Regulation & design guidelines have been updated, the Sign Code ordinance has been adopted. We have a variety of housing development in various stages of completion to meet a variety of needs. A street improvement plan for traffic flow on Maize Road is in the design phase. Several new business have opened and other are under construction. A new fire station is completed and operational. The new Maize City Hall complex includes city operations, the police department and the maize Recreation Commission. The County EMS station is also a part of the complex. These are some examples of what has been accomplished to date.
